surprised：The hardware-software Complex "РС-3000" allows repairing and data restoration on IDE drives of all modifications with capacity ranging from 20 Mb to 120 Gb, produced by: Seagate, Western Digital, Fujitsu, Quantum, Samsung, Maxtor, Conner, IBM, HP, Kalok, Teac, Daeyoung, and Xebec. Using РС-3000 it is possible to repair 50-80% of damaged HDDs. High repair effectiveness is achieved by using a special drive's operating mode (similar to that, used by HDD manufacturers) in which the following operations are available: restoration of Low-Level Format; restoration of the Resident Microcode; restoration or alteration of parameters in disc's ID (Identify Drv); replacement of defective sectors or tracks by reserve ones or their skipping in drive's work (Assign, Reallocation, Skipping Defects); HDD reconfiguration by means of skipping defective areas of magnetic surfaces or turning off defective heads.The main principles of HDD repairing with "РС-3000"Complex "РС-3000" works under control of any PC (from i386 to Pentium IV). Essential hardware part of ?РС-3000? is a special tester-board “PC-3000 PRO”.
The drive under repair is to be connected to ?PC-3000 PRO? and an external power source +5V, +12V (a usual PC power source). The software of the complex is to be installed at the head computer and requires about 160 Mb of disk space.Primary HDD diagnostics is done with the universal utility ?PC-3000 АТ?. Diagnostics' results are displayed on the screen of the head PC and can be either saved as a file or printed.The recovery procedure itself is done with special utilities which are peculiar to every HDD family (see "Complex' software”). The entire process of the drives' restoration can be divided into several stages:restoration of the damaged resident microcode;
servo test and hiding tracks with the damaged servos;
low-level formatting (this procedure is done by the drive itself without the head PC).
Media scan – search for defective sectors and their hiding (Assign, Reallocation, Skipping Defects). The hiding is done with the use of drive's reserve zone which is specially set aside for it.
The drive's restoration procedure with the use of "РС-3000" is maximum automated and requires that the operator has minimum knowledge in the sphere of drive construction. The user of the complex, with the help of program recovery means only is able to fix up to 50% of all the defective HDDs. A specialist who alongside with software recovery can fix hardware, turn off defective read/write heads is able to repair up to 80% of all the defective drives. Tester-board "РС-3000 PRO" The tester-board of ?PC-3000 PRO? is built on the basis of a chipset ASIC made to order, its software is compatible with the board “PC-3000AT” and has a number of additional features:
it has a built-in circuit break controller which permits either not to use the break lines of PC or a possibility to choose them;
it has a built-in timer-counter which allows correct testing of time parameters of the drive in the multi-task environment;
it has a hardware exchange buffer and hardware system of data control which permits to test the drive in PIO MODES 3, 2, 1, and it considerably increases the speed of HDD testing (for comparison: “PC-3000AT” tested the drive in PIO MODE 0);
on the board there is an additional IDE slot and a slot for an external light diode for the drive's selecting. It is used for plugging the HDD under test inside the computer (for instance, in a mobile rack mount);
it is possible to mount adapter "PC3K-PWR" for software power control of the HDD being recovered.
